My name is Lisa Marie Shaughnessy, Founder of Testosterone Trauma Recovery Support.  In 2014 I came up with a book idea, Testosterone The New Drug Addiction. The book idea came to me after three years of testosterone replacement therapy and spending two years unraveling all the physical and emotional damage that came with it. I had developed an iatrogenic addiction to testosterone.   The National Institute of Health’s MedLine Plus online dictionary defines iatrogenic as “induced inadvertently by a physician or surgeon or by medical treatment or diagnostic procedures.”  I call it an “Involuntary Addiction.”

The American Society of Addiction Medicine defines addiction:

Addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations. This is reflected in an individual pathologically pursuing reward and/or relief by substance use and other behaviors.

Addiction is characterized by inability to consistently abstain, impairment in behavioral control, craving, diminished recognition of significant problems with one’s behaviors and interpersonal relationships, and a dysfunctional emotional response. Like other chronic diseases, addiction often involves cycles of relapse and remission. Without treatment or engagement in recovery activities, addiction is progressive and can result in disability or premature death.

I started writing about my own personal experience with testosterone replacement therapy and shared my story on social media.  I had so many people reach out to me asking for help I had to find a way to help them. Hence the birth of, Testosterone Trauma Recovery Support.

I have lived an adventurous life filled with triumphs, tragedies, tons of mistakes and have faced the good, bad and ugly of who I am many times throughout my life. I am a Certified Life Coach, Psychology Major, Media & Marketing Executive, Testosterone Trauma Recovery Advocate.

My goal, and now a life purpose, is to inspire people to just say NO to testosterone replacement therapy and create a rich, fulfilling life.

Love & Miracles,

Lisa Marie Shaughnessy

I am not a medical professional.  This website is to Educate, Inform and Inspire others to think twice before going down the path of testosterone replacement therapy. Please consult with your healthcare provider.  If you don’t like what they are saying, get a second or third opinion. Ask him point blank, do I NEED testosterone or is this just a suggestion?  Ask them how they are making their money on testosterone.
