You probably have your opinions about Charlie Sheen and his behavior that’s okay; hang with me on this one.

Sheen talked to Dr. Oz about how he was using too much testosterone cream. “It was really that whole post-Two and a Half meltdown. That was a very specific period of time that did feel very out of body and very, just detached from all things real,” Sheen says in the episode, according to an advance transcript provided to PEOPLE. “I felt superhuman during some of that. It was a lot of highs and lows.”

What fascinated me was the look on Dr. Oz’s face, it said to me, “Houston we have an emerging drug addiction, Testosterone!”

I have talked to thousands of people over the course of two years and Charlie Sheen’s story, although extreme, there are commonalities among testosterone users and abusers.  I understand the feeling he describes, “very out body and very detached from all things real.”  I too felt the same way.  My three year testosterone induced life was, NOT REAL!

There are several factors that play a role in his behavior and yes testosterone is one of them.  Too much testosterone does cause “manic moments” and if you have co-occurring disorders, substance abuse, undiagnosed anxiety, depression, bi-polar, borderline personality disorder and more, this too will play into the chemical cocktail brewing in your brain.

If you’re currently taking testosterone or thinking about it, think again.  You too could have the same story as Charlie Sheen, and feel “detached from all things real”.
